The more life there is, the more flexibility there is. The more you are alive, the more fluid you are. - Arnaud Desjardins

About Joan

Photo of Joan McMillen Ever since I was a child I've loved following paths through the woods, making music, dancing, immersing myself in stories and poems, and playing "letís pretend." Doing these things engages every aspect of me—body, mind, feelings, imagination—and when that happens I feel myself "well-used."

As an adult, gravitating toward activities, situations, etc., that evoke this perception of being well-used and in balance, Iíve stitched together a professional life as a performing/teaching musician and composer, followed a deep interest in the symbol of the Labyrinth, and become a certified Feldenkrais practitioner.

Each of these three practices has supported me in learning to observe and inhabit my own life with the kind of sustained, detailed attention a naturalist brings to her fieldwork. They have also deepened my respect for the uniqueness of each human being: we are so beautifully designed to absorb life deeply and respond richly to it—each of us in our own never-to-be-repeated ways.

I want to continue rooting myself deeply in my own life and welcoming what Iíve yet to discover there. If you too want that for yourself, I'll be honored to support your adventure with my own experience and skill. Please contact me with your questions.
